Here's a nice looking Heathkit AJ-41 AM/FM  MX Stereo tube tuner that would be a great candidate for restoration and rehab. It does have the built in MX board for stereo and sounds good. I got it as part of a bundle with a matching AA-100 amplifier from a tech who had just gone through both. I was most focused on the amp, but he said the tuner worked well, but wasn't quite where he wanted it. It's obvious that he did replace a couple caps in it though, as well as restuff the filter caps with modern electrolytics.
I tested the tuner and it worked surprisingly well pulling in FM stations on long length of RG6 cable wire attached in lieu of a 300 ohm dipole antenna.
The dial lamps work as do the signal strength meter and the Stereo lamp. It did sound crisp, maybe a bit harsh on the announcer's vocals, but seeing as the caps and resistors are all probably pushing 50 years old I don't find this too surprising; they probably should be tested and replaced with modern ones.  I was surprised though at how well it picked up several stations, including a lower powered NPR I listen to.
Cosmetically, it is in good shape, but there are a lot of marks on it, scratches and corrosion, mainly on the top and sides of the faceplate bezel. There's plenty of pictures though to show you what it looks like, so there shouldn't be any surprises. Overall, it's a nice piece, not a museum centerpiece, but certainly a serviceable handsome piece.
Heathkit is one of the classic names in vintage audio.  If you're looking for a vintage tube tuner as a project, daily driver or collectible, this one deserves your serious consideration; don't let it get away!!
