Each piece of equipment is cosmetically restored and fully tested in our well-equipped lab by an engineer with 30+ years of experience in the HiFi world. If it does not meet or exceed the original manufactures specifications, it will not be sold. We are very selective about the equipment we purchase, focusing on mostly analog, high-build quality, American, and European built units.

SkyFi Service Notes:
Being that this piece was in all original condition, we opted for a basic alignment to restore tuner functions to proper spec instead of doing a deep dive on component replacement.
This means that the tuner is fundamentally working with good FM reception, stereo separation, and dial tracking - but may not perform at its absolute peak best. Still amazing to be clear.
So if this tuner is to be used in a super critical listening environment, we'd encourage you to pursue additional service or restoration by a tuner specialist.
We tested all of the tubes and replaced one week 6CS6 tube. Both magic eye indicators and meters were tested and are functioning correctly.
The fixed output has a nice dual concentric level control which allowed us to perfect the balance for the L/R output signals when using the fixed output. When testing using an oscilloscope the variable output is a tad bit uneven but still *very good* for age.

1. Automatic stereo-mono switching that is "clickless" and completely electronic. (Patent applied for.)
2. Multipath indicator to eliminate multipath reception by showing when your antenna is rotated to the correct position for minimum multipath distortion.
3. Double tuned input circuits before the first R.F. amplifier to reduce spurious re- sponses.
4. New D'Arsonval movement meters of increased sensitivity which do not need zero setting adjustments.
5. A new computer designed filter to reduce noise from stations broadcasting subcarrier auxiliary music services. No other tuner uses such a filter.
The SkyFi Testing Process for Tuners:
We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure there are no signs of stress or aging. Capacitors are checked for telltale signs of bulging or leaking, resistors are checked for signs of overheating or cracking, and tubes are inspected for signs of stress overheating or cracking.
Then the tuner is thoroughly tested in our lab utilizing our professional Sencore SG80 FM Generator, which allows us to generate a reference FM signal of any frequency and amplitude, and then measure the resulting tuner output on our Sencore PR81 or oscilloscope.
This MR71 passed with flying colors and produced a natural and warm sounding output.

We’re not a store, so please don’t make an appointment if you’re just curious as to how a speaker or piece of equipment sounds. In essence - no tire kickers please.

We can also arrange to install, calibrate, and tune your newly purchased gear in your listening room if you’re local to our area. This is super useful when purchasing large speakers or heavy amplifiers. It’s also great for ensuring your new turntable is setup correctly in its final resting place.
